The Batch and Serial Numbers tab

The Batch/Serial Numbers tab appears, once you have selected Items use batch or serial numbers on the Add New Sub-class > Details tab.

To create batch or serial numbers for your sub-classes

Open: Retail > Merchandise > Merchandise Hierarchy.

  1. Highlight the relevant class and click Add.

The Add New Sub-Class window appears.

  2. Select the Batch/Serial Numbers tab.
  3. Select whether you use Batch numbers or Serial numbers.
  4. Select A sale may only be from a single batch if required.

This makes sure that sales are made from a single batch. This is useful, e.g. if you sell goods such as paint and want to ensure that the goods are exactly the same colour.

  5. Select one or more of the following options:

You can choose to use a reference or date to distinguish between batches. This allows you to distinguish between stock that comes from the same batch but are created on different days.

For example, you may work in the food industry, producing food from the same batch of ingredients. By assigning a batch number as well as a use by date, you can ensure that your staff are able to identify the food that was produced first, so it can be sold first.

  6. Enter the batch or serial numbers that you want to use in the Batch attributes area of the window.

The attribute is automatically marked as In Use as it is created.

  7. If the batch number must be assigned to all of the sub-class, select the Compulsory check box.
